Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start investing with little money?

A few hundred dollars is enough to buy a fractional share of almost any company. The bigger question is what to buy — and that's where Rule #1's "wonderful business at a fair price" framework comes in. Our guide on investing $500 walks through a concrete starting point.

How do I know if a company is undervalued?

Calculate its "sticker price" (what the business is actually worth based on cash flow and growth) and compare to the current share price. If the share price is significantly lower, you have a margin of safety. Our free calculators do the math for you.

What is the Rule #1 approach to market news?

Most market news is noise — short-term price action and clickbait. Rule #1 filters for the small set of news that actually affects business fundamentals (earnings, management changes, competitive shifts) and ignores the rest. The articles in this collection model that filter.

How often should I check on my investments?

For Rule #1 investors who own a small number of businesses they understand: monthly is plenty, quarterly is fine. Daily checking is what fuels anxiety and bad decisions. The point of buying wonderful businesses is that they don't need constant attention.

Ready to put this into practice?

The articles will take you a long way. The Workshop will take you the rest of the way — 3 days with Phil Town and the Rule #1 team, live coaching, hands-on exercises, and the full system you can use immediately.
